Up-cycled Wooden Frame

You’ve seen these plain wooden frames in the dollar bin at your craft store or even home improvement super store. Some come with mirrors inside, glass to make it a picture frame or with nothing like mine.

I used vintage clip art and magazine pages to create a fun frame that now is in our downstairs “ocean themed” bathroom.

Supplies used: wooden frame, clip art, scissors, clear glue , sealer, beaded trim and tulle or ribbon.

Cut out all your images ahead of time if possible. This is a hands on technique and it’s hard to cut paper with sticky fingers. Drizzle your frame with the clear glue and spread evenly with your fingers. Start adding the images and coat them with your fingers and the glue as you work. Overlap some of the images. Continue until all the wooden frame space is used up. Set aside to dry for a bit. Once dry, you may coat with a sealer following the directions on the bottle or spray- both found at any craft store. Let dry. Once it is shiny but not wet to touch, you may start gluing the beaded trim in place. Lastly tie your tulle or ribbon in place.

Hang on a wall to be enjoyed by all or give as a gift.

Use extra photo’s, gift wrap, a child’s art work or even festive scrapbook paper for your scraps. What’s great about this project is that you probably have everything you need in your home, right now.

It’s the holiday season once again. A time to mail out and receive festive greeting cards. Cards that seem to multiple as the end of the year draws close. They fill up the mantle, adorn the fridge, get strung up on ribbon, twine and even get pinned to the household bulletin board.  Some come with detailed newsletters, family photo’s and even wallets of school portraits. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Or in this case, turn a ugly tote into something a little more eye pleasing with $10 or less. Somehow I got assigned to decorate some totes for a upcoming scrapbook retreat. It’s a little get together for 6 of us and as a tradition, we all chip in to fill a tote with scrapbooking and craft supplies. Thus making our goody bags for the weekend! :)   When one of the girls bought these totes on line, she did not know they had a design. So she gave them to me to fix. (more…)
