A Fall Collage

If you are stuck on current scrapbooking projects, why not make a Fall Collage? It’s a great way to break up the monotony of your album or you can make it into extra something special like a holiday decoration! To begin, you’ll just need …a camera and maybe 15 minutes or more depending on how into this you get!  Walk around the inside of your home and take photo’s of things that remind you of Fall.  My photo’s are of decorations that I bring out every Thanksgiving. Just like the photo’s I scrap, each of these items tell a story or holds a special place in my heart.

To make this collage on your computer with out any special bells and whistles is easy if you have microsoft.  If you don’t, you might have something similar you can use as well.

After uploading the photo’s from your camera,  photo shop them. This means crop out clutter, whiten, brighten and sharpen as I showed in this previous post. Save photo’s as usual. There is no need to re size the photo’s as you may want to print out the finished collage later and  you would not want the pixels on each item to be less than quality perfect!  Next, open up your microsoft publisher or other publisher program. -This is used for home made signs, brochures and newsletters. I used “full page” (blank). Here I copied the photo’s I wanted to use to the blank page. The program allows you to drag photo’s around, re size and even flip. I played around with the different placements until I was happy with the fit. I actually did not use all the photo’s I intended to use!  That’s why it’s a good idea to have extra’s on hand to fill blank spots if needed. I made the border using another snapshot favorite! I just re sized the 3 leaves photo to fit inside the allowed space , then copied and pasted all the way around the collage. Flipping and turning the leaves as needed.

When finished , click on “File” select “save as”, File name will be Publisher 1 (unless you change to something else), for “save as type”- you’ll need to make it “JPEG file interchangeable format” so it can be printed or posted on line.

This is very much like digital scrapbooking but with out all the extra’s. Some people I know, like to go this route, print them out as a 8×11 photo sheet and then add the other elements like journal tags, ribbon, rub ons, stickers and general scarpbooking embellishments by hand!

So what do you think? Is this something you could easily try?

  1. I am now curious if I could use iPhoto on my husband’s Mac computer to create something similar to this.
