Halloween Treat Cones

Have you ever made a treat cone? If not, it’s super easy and fun to do for any Holiday! You fill them with gifts, candy, even flowers! Here I’ll show you just how easy it is to make the cone and rosette.

Supplies needed to make these Halloween treat cones:

  1. As many 12×12 sheets of polka dot paper you need. 1 sheets makes 2 cones.
  2. 1 sheet of decorative green 12×12 paper.
  3. Orange, black and scrap cardstock
  4. Stapler
  5. Standard hole punch
  6. Scissors
  7. Tacky craft glue
  8. Halloween colored chenille stems and ribbon
  9. Pumpkin punch
  10. 1 1/2″ circle punch

Start by creasing your polka dot paper in 1/2 and cutting. This will give you two pieces of 6×12″ papers.  Continue till you get as many cones you need.

Then start curling the paper like you would to make a funnel. Something you might do to get a powdered drink into a water bottle.

Curl around as shown then staple as shown. Putting the stapler into the mouth of the cone towards the end, as far as you can go, then staple down.

This how the stapled cones should look. If desired, you can trim off the  paper flap near the staple.

Now as I showed you in this post... here is a refresher on how to use a border punch. Cut some strips of orange cardstock and place in the punch starting on the right side. Make sure the paper is up against the top of the punch and along a grid line.

Holding the paper steady, push down on the punch. You now have the start of a  decorative design. Line that design (3 at a time) to the left of the punch, make sure the the punched out design on your paper aligns with the design on the punch. Hold in place while you punch again. Continue the process till you get one continuous border punched strip.

Trim each  strip to one inch. Cut slits on the unpunched side to make tabs. Apply a thick line of glue to each cone, near the edge , inside and outside. Add the border strip as shown and fold over tabs to the inside.

Foe the rosette. Take your green 12×12 paper and fold in 1/2. Fold this lengthwise in 1/2 again. Again once more. Cut them all out at the line. You should have 8  12x 1& 1/2 -ish strips of paper.

Then punch a even amount per cone of black , scrap- paper circles and orange pumpkins.

Begin by folding your paper strip at 1 cm intervals, over and over like a accordion.

Glue one end to the other. Both glued parts must be the decorative side of the paper. Glue the finished rosette dead center to a circle of the scrap cardstock.

Glue the pumpkins to the black cardstock. Add these to the center of each rosette.

Glue the rosettes to the front of your cone. Once it is set, punch holes on the side of each cone and attach the chenille stem and tie ribbons on each side.

Your cones are now ready to filled with treats!
