If you have not figured it out by now…I love Halloween! Every year I do the same old same old, but this year decided to try some new ideas. For the Garage door I used Fabric tape, same as gaffers tape to make the gate. This type of tape will not ruin the garage door finish like duct tape would. I placed the tape carefully and cut at the seams of the door with a exacto knife so the garage door could roll up with out a problem.
I cut the spider webs from black trash bags, same as you would a snowflake and stabilized them with packaging tape on one side and clear vinyl on the other. I made full webs and 1/2 webs and strung them on a line that used to have plastic flags for the summertime.
I’m a stickler when it comes to the quality of spider webs at Halloween. I’ve had so many “duds” in the past it almost makes me not want to bother to decorate. Notice I said almost. But this year I decided to give it another shot and it seemed to work out.
I have a trellis I keep up all year in front of my door and began by stringing it with orange lights. Then I loosely draped with some webbing . It helped that the outside of our house was covered with coarse stucco. The stucco helped to catch the webbing and hold it in place.
I decided I wanted to have spider egg sacks this year and once again the stucco proved to be helpful. I took some small balls of cotton fluff, used to stuff dolls and pillows, and placed a few spiders on it. The spiders were in a bag of rings I bought from the party story to which I just roughly cut off the ring part. Then I placed a stretched out piece of webbing over the ball and put them in various points of interest inside our door way. The cotton fluff stuck well enough but the stretched over webbing helped as well.
I placed the cut spider rings all over the egg sacks to make it look like they were spilling out. I also placed a large rubber spider at the top corner of my door way as if this was the mama.
I added more spiders to the web on the trellis and even hung some long pieces of black thread so when you passed under, it would feel like you had spider webs on your face!
Instead of the usual “welcome” greeting, I opted for the Hollywood vampire greeting…”Velcome”. The other side of the sign is a Fall greeting.
This is new. A friend gave me this frame with a faerie print in it. The print was faded so I covered it with plenty of cork place mats and then added this pretty batik fabric with a hot glue gun. I screwed in cup hooks at the bottom and we recently hung it on our newly painted wall!
It’s a great way to make a memory board for any location and I really like how the colors in the fabric pick up others colors in the house.
Here are some other decorations that are displayed in our home. The foam pumpkin below is a wearing a kitty mask and a beautiful witch hat a friend made me.
I hope I’ve inspired you once again!
