It’s fun to visit your local $1 store and finding everyday items that can be altered! I like to browse the isles and see what I can get for $10 or less. So many goodies to have fun with . Here, I made a cute Halloween frame that can be used as decoration or given as a gift. I love the cute cat and grinning jack o lanterns. Materials needed:
- Photo frame (preferably with a glass pane)
- Decorative scrapbook paper
- Precision or micro scissors (standard scissors do not work well when cutting out details)
- Tacky glue
- small pop up dots
- A photo or your child’s art work
Begin by taking out all the papers that come with the frame. Then clean the glass till it sparkles. Decide if you want your frame to be vertical or horizontal and set aside.
Locate your paper to be cut up. This was something I’ve had for quite sometime but have never used it, as it’s not really my scrapping style.
Cut out your general design first. It’s easier to cut detailed pieces when they are small as opposed to a large sheet. Then using your micro scissors, start cutting out the patterned paper slowly and carefully. If something is too tricky to cut around, then cut it off.
It’s OK to cut in pieces till you have what you want. Layering is always a plus when doing this type of craft.
Cut out the paper that you’d like to be your frames side. Then add generous amounts of tacky glue to where you’ll be adding the border. Be careful not to put to much glue on the sides as it can seep out and gum up the edges.
Place your border carefully as tacky glue is not forgiving. Smooth out the bubbles and bumps. Then add glue to the bottom of the frame.
Place your design on the glue, over hanging on the frame edges adds a nice decorative element.
For the little cat, I used small pop up dots so it would look like it’s ready to jump on the jack o lantern!
If you are wanting this frame to be a long term item, add some extra details using rhinestones, glitter glue, maybe some decorative buttons before finishing with a coat of sealer.
Add a favorite photo and you are ready to go!

I am going to visit the dollar store and try this! I have lots of paper just hanging around that I can use. Great idea!
