What to do with leftover Scraps

It never fails to have left over scraps from any scrapbook project! And boy do I love scraps!  I don’t like to waste paper so my scraps usually consist of nothing smaller that 4″x4″. If it does happen to be smaller and it’s a really cute piece of paper, I try to get one last punched shape from it to be used for later.

My scraps are  organized and with in easy reach. One container for the patterns and one for solid colors…but they do have away of intermixing as you can see here.

Today, I used some scraps to make cupcake decorations! It’s so easy to transform simple cupcakes into heartfelt treats. For this project, you will  need the following….

  1. Paper scraps
  2. Scissors
  3. A favorite craft punch
  4. Tooth picks
  5. White craft glue

If you are making your picks with delicate paper scraps, colorful magazine photo’s or vellum, you will need to punch them a piece of card stock (as shown) or the top paper can get jammed in your punch, frustrating you and wasting your precious scraps. (not fun!)

Once you have punched out your front and backs, find some tooth picks.Any kind will do….colored, round, long short, flat and even plastic. Mine happened to be long cocktail picks so I promptly cut them in half with my scissors. (if you do have to down size yours, have something facing you to block the any flying picks!)

Lay your creations  in a row and add some white craft glue on to what will be the back of your pick, then lay your toothpick in the glue and apply the top design. press firmly and let dry before using.

You can even use your cupcake picks to embellish a card or layout!

Now take a look at the top cupcake and the bottom one. The butterfly decoration was easier to put together because the shape was solid. The crown decoration was a little more tricky because of the added details in the punch.

If you will be making these for a party…opt for a simple shape.

(you’ll thank me later)

Here, I’ve hand cut  some fun designs from some festive scrap paper. Once you have made your assortment of decorations, you can add a  little glitter glue for pretty bling, or keep it simple like these.

Having friends over? Why not use your pics as table settings? The possibilities are endless once you start creating!

Have fun!

I love it, what a cool way to use scraps! I usually stick to making cards and using scraps on other layouts. I’m known for my scraps, as I keep even the smallest ones. Scrapping on a budget will do that to ya.
