Up-cycled Wooden Frame

You’ve seen these plain wooden frames in the dollar bin at your craft store or even home improvement super store. Some come with mirrors inside, glass to make it a picture frame or with nothing like mine.

I used vintage clip art and magazine pages to create a fun frame that now is in our downstairs “ocean themed” bathroom.

Supplies used: wooden frame, clip art, scissors, clear glue , sealer, beaded trim and tulle or ribbon.

Cut out all your images ahead of time if possible. This is a hands on technique and it’s hard to cut paper with sticky fingers. Drizzle your frame with the clear glue and spread evenly with your fingers. Start adding the images and coat them with your fingers and the glue as you work. Overlap some of the images. Continue until all the wooden frame space is used up. Set aside to dry for a bit. Once dry, you may coat with a sealer following the directions on the bottle or spray- both found at any craft store. Let dry. Once it is shiny but not wet to touch, you may start gluing the beaded trim in place. Lastly tie your tulle or ribbon in place.

Hang on a wall to be enjoyed by all or give as a gift.

Use extra photo’s, gift wrap, a child’s art work or even festive scrapbook paper for your scraps. What’s great about this project is that you probably have everything you need in your home, right now.

It’s the holiday season once again. A time to mail out and receive festive greeting cards. Cards that seem to multiple as the end of the year draws close. Quick Paper Crafting Fixes

December 7th, 2010

It all happens to the best of us…we mess up when using a rub-on, we misspell a title with stamps, we tear or spill something on a lay out in progress!

Here are some of my quick fixes that might help you along the way!

Partially stamped images-

  • A easy fix if you are using acrylic stamps. But if you are using wooden stamps, re-stamp the image onto another piece of paper, cut out and affix over partially the stamped image with foam tape for a raised look.
  • Use colored pencils, pens or even glitter glue to fill in the missing parts. Read on…

Happy Thanksgiving!

Recently we went to Borrego Springs to visit my Mom who had just turned 75.  We were only in town for 2 nights as we needed to come back to prepare for today- Thanksgiving, but we managed to have a really nice time! We arrived in town on Sunday and on Monday we decided to have a little off road adventure and go visit the state parks “Wind caves”.

My car  luckily is a all 4 wheel vehicle so we had no trouble maneuvering over the rocks and sand. The drive out there was just beautiful, taking us into a part of the valley I’ve never been.

(Dyllan below waiting at our picnic spot)

Walking through the canyon was insane. The rocks formations were unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Stunning and majestic at the same time! Below is my Mom, Brian and Dyllan.

We did not hike to the wind caves after all as it would have been treacherous for my Mom and equally dangerous for Dyllan. (something for Brian and I to look forward to next time! ) None the less, the experience was rather rewarding. I brought snacks and we had a picnic, enjoying the beauty of the moment. I am thankful to have places (like this) this close by  to enjoy and to be able to share this time with my Family.

Happy Thanksgiving!
